Join us for a day of inspiration and information at Sherman Library & Gardens with horticulturist Matt Maggio. Matt and his team transformed an aging landscape–formerly called the “cactus garden"–into an inviting succulent oasis. From bold planting compositions to details about hardscape materials and climate considerations, you’ll learn how the garden was created, how it has developed, and its ongoing maintenance.
This event includes a morning talk, followed by a guided garden tour with Matt and Erin McCoy, and a box lunch.
Matt Maggio has been passionate about horticulture from his childhood days in the vegetable garden through an educational process both formal and informal. With a degree from Cal Poly in his pocket, he has launched a career in Southern California as nurseryman and landscape designer, focusing on succulent plants.
Erin McCoy is Horticulturalist at the gardens, and has special interests in botanicals collections; palms, anthuriums, begonias, fuchsias, ferns, and cycads. She studied horticulture and sustainable environments at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She has been at Sherman Library and Gardens for three years.
